KYVC Online Excellence Awards
The Kentucky Virtual Campus, in partnership with the Council on Postsecondary Education's
Faculty Development Workgroup, calls for
nominations every year for the KYVC Online Excellence Awards. This peer review, recognition, and reward program is for instructors
teaching via KYVC. This program, funded by the KYVC, identifies and recognizes successful online learning and teaching that exemplify
the best integrations of pedagogy and technology. This program is open to all instructors whose courses are offered via the KYVC
(including KYVAE, KyEducators
and KYVU4K12). The submission can focus on any part (or parts) of a course offered
via the KYVC during the current academic year. Winning entries are showcased in the KYVC website for future reference by all.

Criteria for the awards are based on Arthur W. Chickering and Stephen C. Ehrmann's adaptation of
Chickering and Gamson's Seven Principles of Good Practice. *
This is described in greater detail in articles such as those listed in the webliography below.
The principles define "good practice in integrating pedagogy and technology" as those that:
- Encourage Contacts Between Students and Instructors
- Develop Reciprocity and Cooperation Among Students
- Use Active Learning Techniques
- Give Prompt Feedback
- Emphasize Time on Task
- Communicate High Expectations
- Respect Diverse Talents and Ways of Learning
The goal of this program is to identify efforts that create high-quality, interactive learner-centered experiences which
demonstrate that
- the students advanced significantly in relation to the course objectives,
- technological tools were used in an effective and innovative way to undergird the pedagogy, and
- the submission can serve as an exemplar for other instructors.
How to Submit Your Proposal
A successful submission will depict an actual teaching/learning experience from a recent academic and/or fiscal
years, including:

the "Kentucky Checklist" (a .pdf file you can download
from the website of the Office of the Kentucky ADA Coordinator)
- paraphrased or composite of student responses/interactions
- a meta-narrative that
- describes how the above depictions of the teaching/learning experience exemplifies as many of the 7
Principles as possible.
- shows an effective balance between the technology used and the pedagogical principles incorporated in the online learning
unit described, i.e., the quality of technological innovation should reflect the teaching/learning principle
- includes description and evidence of (or plan for) assessment of the online learning experience submitted for review, e.g.,
pre- post-tests (scores), student feedback or Cross & Angelo Classroom Assessment Technique

this spring, and for future visitors to the KYVC website to be able to access for at least two (2) more years.
