Kentucky Virtual University adds online tutoring and Sunday call center hours

FRANKFORT, KY (November 11, 2001) - Kentucky Virtual University opened registration for the Spring 2002 with expanded services to students, including free online tutoring for the Spring term, Sunday call center hours, and an online writing center.

Acting CEO Daniel Rabuzzi explained, "These services are designed to create a high-touch environment for students plugged into class over the Internet. Live tutors are now just a click away, and in some subjects, are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

Students can schedule sessions in subjects ranging from basic math to Calculus II, accounting, chemistry, economics, Spanish and statistics. The tutoring will remain free through mid-May 2002 and is available through an arrangement the virtual university has with the University of Kentucky.

A second tutoring service, the KYVU WritePlace, recently made its debut on Kentucky's virtual campus. The WritePlace is an online writing lab made possible through the UK/KYVU partnership. At the WritePlace, students can get help with essays, research papers and even resumes. There is a cost for this service beginning in January. Students can access both tutoring services at www.kyvu.org.

Providing personal attention to a myriad of student inquiries over a toll-free line is the five-member call center team. These information specialists are now available with expanded evening hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. A 24 x 7 tech help desk is also available.

Registration for 50 online programs and hundreds of courses continues through December. All courses are offered by accredited Kentucky colleges and universities and accredited professional development providers.

The Kentucky Virtual University was established by the 1997 General Assembly to provide accessible education for all citizens and employers.
