KYVU Career Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in joining the Kentucky Virtual
University staff.
The KYVU, in partnership with the KVHS and the KYVL, is an approved provider of supplemental education
services for Kentucky's Title I Improvement Schools identified under the federal guidelines in the "No Child
Left Behind (NCLB)" legislation. Currently, these three virtual "sisters" are providing
elementary, middle and high schools with online supplemental curriculum anytime and anywhere a learner
can access the Internet. The KVHS's trained, certified online instructor works with school staff, the
learner and the student's learning partner (e.g., a parent) to determine a learning plan and how best to
facilitate the learning. For more information see the KYVU4K12 website.
The KYVU is interested in working with a researcher who
is interested in this initiative. They are open to proposals from researchers from any discipline, for
example, besides Education, researchers from Anthropology, Sociology, Family Studies, and Communications might be interested
in this project since this initiative will include issues of class, race, gender, and family dynamics as well as different media for communication.
Also, proposals may cut across methodological domains since the data currently being collected for the school
districts and the Kentucky Department of Education are both quantitative and qualitative. The design of the
observational or research study could include mediation of barriers to education, the influence and impact of
the technology on learning and teaching, the different learning goals and outcomes from rural or urban
school-goer utilizing this unique combination of support services from an approved provider of
NCLB supplemental education services. A research study could also be useful
for policy development at the Council on Postsecondary Education.
